May this be your fresh start
Community updates, member spotlight, events and more.
Here it is in all its splendour: May!
This is another fresh slate for everyone to remake and celebrate themselves. There’s rain, spring, midges and everything being renewed all around us – it’s in the air. You can’t help but feel that everything is simply going to grow and turn out well. Including you. Especially you.
April was a lot, in the best way. People built things that genuinely surprised me, and somehow through all of it everyone kept showing up. So before we dive into what’s ahead this month, it has to be said: April you did not flop or give us trials we could not overcome. Not even a little.
Now. Let’s talk about May.
This month, show up for yourself and celebrate every effort you make towards becoming the person you will be proud of in future. If there is anything May Day itself taught me, it is that because you do something without thinking twice does not mean that it is nothing and not worth celebrating yourself for. The thing that comes naturally to you is a talent and something unique about you. Don’t trivialize yourself and your gifts.
That being said, here is May for you…
🌟 Community Spotlight
If you don’t know him, you are probably new to DevCareer.
There are people in all channels doing real things quietly, and we can’t keep quiet about them.
Faisal first showed up in the DataCamp Scholarship channel. It was hard not to notice him. From being hands-on, motivating others, and providing solutions to people’s questions, Faisal was the man for it. Today, we spotlight him for his consistency, passion for learning, and positive energy.
Faisal’s story is something we can all relate to and see snippets of ourselves in. That is why you need to meet him (as personally as you can from here) and see his story —which might easily be yours.
Do you know someone in the community who deserves their flowers? Drop their name in the #stand-out channel. I’m always watching.
📅 This Wednesday: Navigating the Project Lifecycle with Atlassian
Today at 3PM WAT (yes, today, you aren’t imagining things), Lewis Tanguhwar is joining us for The Modern PM's Toolkit: Navigating the Project Lifecycle with Atlassian. Clear your afternoon. Or evening, if you live in East Africa.
Lewis is an Atlassian-certified professional who leads the Operational Excellence Team at Alluvium, with four years deep in the Atlassian ecosystem building solutions and driving enterprise agility. He’s also the Community Champion for Atlassian Community Events Abuja, an ALX Community Ambassador. He shows up for African tech talent the way we try to show up in this community, with consistency and with purpose.
If you’ve ever wondered how to actually navigate a project lifecycle without losing your mind or your team, or just want to see what project managers really do, this is a great session to attend.
Would you like to share your expertise with the community, or know an expert at their skill who would? DM me on slack.

What do we respect more than winning in DevCareer?
Not stopping.
Okereke Innocent Chinweokwu joined the DevCareer Community through the Raenest x DevCareer Hackathon a month ago. He put out his product on the table in front of everyone, and though didn’t take home a prize, he got back to building anyway.
His product is Siiqo. It’s a commerce and business infrastructure built specifically for Nigerian SMEs and freelancers. Visibility, trust, identity, branding, payments, business operations. Everything a small serious business needs to look and operate like a real brand, without breaking the bank.

May is one of those months that tends to sort people out. The ones who were serious in April keep going. The ones who were coasting start to feel it.
I know which one you are, and that’s why you’re still reading this.
Today is another day to start afresh.
See you in the channels!
Glory
